Triple Ds presents:
Motel Radio | The High Divers
- DAY OF SHOW
Longtime staples of Atlanta's indie americana scene, the band released two 7-inches and a full length album as “Cute Boots” before realizing that they were on the cusp of something true to themselves, but falling just short. After taking some time to double down on their craft, the band is back with a vengeance and a much stronger sense of identity.
“Harder Than a Rick Ankiel,” will be released Friday, March 11th digitally and on limited edition cassette tape via Bear Kids Recordings. The cassingle, which will feature B-side track, “Bad Habit,” will also include a digital download code printed on the back of an original Rick Ankiel baseball card designed by local artist Jeremy Ray.
Side A: “Harder Than a Rick Ankiel” is an anthemic story-song that showcases the band’s piano-driven folk elements while staying true to their poppy punk roots. Songwriter Gus Fernandez says he wanted to write a song that compares his struggles in dating to the tumultuous career of former major league pitcher-turned-outfielder, Rick Ankiel, whose home run against The Giants in the 2010 playoffs inspired him to write the song.
Side B: In “Bad Habit,” Fernandez explores the distance between the person he wishes to be and the person the world perceives him to be, weaving a tale of fictitious characters entangled in a small-town drama that culminates in the question at the back of his mind; “What kind of person do I really want to be?"
A full-length album is in the works with a release date forthcoming, until then, "Harder Than a Rick Ankiel" will serve as a window into the bright future ahead of Pony League.
